Doorways symbolize a study of choice. We live in a country and unprecedented age of possibilities with the freedom to choose, but choice is difficult because it also represents sacrifice. To choose something inherently means giving up something else. For me moving forward comes easy, I only see the possibilities, but for many when presented a choice, they stand frozen in place immobilized. I am curious on what makes the difference.
Within each piece, my last creative step was tearing my monotypes. I wanted to incorporate the fear of risk into each composition. It was effective because unconsciously I kept delaying this last step for days and then weeks, trying to ignore the ultimate act. To delay is very uncharacteristic of me so every painting is a culmination of overcoming my fear in the doorway.
